London’s Cadogan Hall will host an evening of Swedish and Swedish-inspired music on 23 December. The event, which celebrates Lilla julafton (‘Little Christmas Eve’), will showcase rising talent from Sweden and internationally established musicians as well as special guests, to be announced.
Soprano Hanna Husáhr and baritone Carl Ackerfeldt will perform a selection of traditional Swedish Christmas songs alongside seasonal works by Swedish composer Gustaf Nordqvist. Music by Jean Sibelius, whose first language was Swedish, will also be performed.
Also featuring in the concert will be pianist Henrik Måwe, who will play works by J S Bach and Percy Grainger, while London-based Swedish-born cellist Mats Lidström will make a personal contribution with a composition he has dedicated to the memory of Raoul Wallenberg, the legendary Swedish diplomat and humanitarian: Lidström will perform My Heart is in the East, a duet created with dancer/choreographer Linnea Ericsson.
Music by Mozart and his Swedish contemporary Carl Michael Bellman will also be performed.
