I think it’s safe to say, Colin Currie is the number one man when it comes to solo percussion players of his generation. You only need a glance at his 2014/15 diary to get an idea of his demanding schedule of performances taking him all over the world, with new works for almost every concert. No surprise then that trying to pin him down for an interview in a favourable time zone is harder than playing a drum kit in stilettos. However, fans among us will be pleased to know that the UK’s premier percussionist will have his feet firmly on UK soil for a series of concert dates during the forthcoming months as a curates his very own festival, ‘Metal, Wood, Skin’ at the Southbank Centre.
