Sir James Galway turns 75 later this year and suspects his flautist wife [Lady] Jeanne ‘is colluding with others to put something musical together by way of celebration – but I’ve no idea what it is!’
Sony is certainly celebrating, planning a bumper boxed-set of Galway recordings for the autumn. Meanwhile, the concerts go on as normal, including a Cadogan Hall appearance in London on 10 May. ‘I still play the flute very well, I love doing it,’ he says. ‘When that’s no longer the case, I’ll stop. I’m still in demand, which is gratifying when the music business often gets caught up with the latest young star.’
