JOHN CASKEN | A sense of place

John Casken is 65 this year. Not for him the slippers by the fire as he approaches pension age, though. The Barnsley-born composer and emeritus professor of music at the University of Manchester is not even settling for quietly tending the garden in his cottage home in Northumberland’s National Park in Upper Coquetdale, although he admits that at one stage he thought that might have been his fate.
