Live music has always been part of what the Globe does. As its director of music Bill Barclay points out, ‘We don’t hang speakers – so any time you involve a musical element, you’re involving a human being’. That natural rapport with musicians is paying dividends as the completion of the Sam Wanamaker Playhouse has made an absolute gem of an intimate venue available, within which Barclay is hoping something unique will emerge. ‘Music is such a part of the globe experience, it’s a natural extension to have musicians come here and feel like they’re members of the company.’
